Tell us about your musical style, who influenced you?
I was mostly influenced by a combination of artists or works. The main inspiration came from works like the Kin Fables from Clann.
Tell us about your emotive new single ‘The Last Memory Of Me’!
The Last Memory of Me was inspired by some personal events and a sort of relationship between two people that couldn’t be easily labeled. These events inspired me to create a fictional story, inspired by many other elements, stories and artists (Clann & The Kin Fables, Tamino and others). The recordings that the girl leaves behind for the boy (the poems) act like a sort of thread for him to find her again. Almost like an inverted story of Theseus & Ariadne, where instead the girl is the one who needs to find a way out.
It’s deeply resonating and hard-hitting, what made you want to create an audio-novel track such as this?
I like to call it an audio-novel, because it’s a mixture of poetry, artworks and music. I spent two years creating a work of art and I want people to understand the depth of this project. Almost like a book, each song acts like a chapter, for a total of five. This entire album has to be experienced as an audio-novel for another reason: the artworks are not just a cover, they are showing the places that you would see in this journey, almost like a movie. The same cover will be showcased on the streaming platforms, however the artwork on YouTube will be different for each song and will also feature unique animations.
Are you into spoken word and poetry? Did this influence this kind of release?
Kind of. I like to mix storytelling elements in my music because I think they can add something more compared to just lyrics. I think that poetry can create a specific atmosphere that lyrics cannot. I studied poetry in school and I always thought it was a beautiful form of art that I think can be mixed with music and create a great combination.
Do you plan to record more songs like this?
Yes, the album features 5 songs and all of them are like this. Each song features a poem that gets more and more sophisticated as you approach the ending (the same concept that you can find in the Divine Comedy). Also the rhymes become more articulated but you can still understand what is going on. I believe I will be able to decide what to do next depending on how this album goes, however It would be amazing if it could get the right attention. It’s not simple music but I also understand that it requires some time and dedication to be completely understood.
There’s a real soothing feeling to this song, is this your aim when writing and recording?
It was the main goal when I wrote this specific song, because I really wanted to create a bittersweet feeling, mixed with nostalgia and comfort. It is like a sweet memory of the past that you cannot fully remember but that holds a special place in your heart. The rest of the album ranges from dark to more rhythmic parts to even peaceful and emotional moments. It fully encompasses the experience of a dream from start to finish.
And lastly, what’s next for Kisnou in 2023?
After the release of my album, I plan to release many more singles that are quite different from the music I released in my previous years. I believe that they can really give a different flavor to my catalog of electronic music. Each single is something new, it’s hard for me to label even the genre of each song, that’s why I cannot wait to show you all what’s next!
