Laverne Cox Reacts After Being Mistaken For Beyoncé While At The U.S. Open

As Serena Williams competes in the U.S. Open, many people are front and center as this will be the legendary tennis player’s last time competing in the tournament. One of the many people that came out Monday night to support Serena during her match was actress Laverne Cox. However, Laverne was originally mistaken for another major celebrity and had a hilarious reaction to what fans had to say.

Laverne hit up the tennis tournament rocking a brown pair of liquid leggings and a sheer black top, along with a black face mask and hoop earrings. While cheering from the crowd, Laverne was caught on camera, and many fans at home watching the tournament thought she was Beyoncé.

Soon after some fans came to the realization that it wasn’t Beyoncé, and actually Laverne, causing them to laugh about the moment.

Once Laverne caught on to what fans were talking about over on Twitter, she said,

“Not me getting mistaken for @Beyonce at the #USOpen tonight then trending on Twitter as the internet cackles over the mistaken identity. These tweets are funny as hell. Enjoy!!!”

Now although Beyoncé was not physically present Monday night to watch Serena’s match in the U.S. Open, she did recently narrate the new Gatorade commercial that celebrates Serena’s final U.S. Open.

As previously reported, earlier this month Serena Williams announced that she would be evolving away from tennis and said,

“I have never liked the word retirement. It doesn’t feel like a modern word to me. I’ve been thinking of this as a transition, but I want to be sensitive about how I use that word, which means something very specific and important to a community of people. Maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution. I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me.”

Congrats to Serena Williams on her legendary career in the sport of tennis, and thank you for forever changing the game.
