Loveday returns with new single ‘Ugly Smile’ | New Music

After cementing herself with a wealth of rich and enticing efforts these last few years, including her highly-praised comeback jam ‘Bad Habit (Ch)’ last year, West Midlands-based artist Loveday returns for 2023 to deliver the breezy new offering ‘Ugly Smile’.

Bringing back more of that smooth yet euphoric dream-pop direction she has built for herself, ‘Ugly Smile’ sees her continue her pursuit of warm and vibrant textures throughout. Filled with a rich and pulsating aura that perfectly reflects her own mesmerising vocal style, she is cementing herself as a beautifully compelling name on the rise right now.

Speaking about the new track, she said, “Ugly smile is about falling for somebody after leaving a toxic relationship. I wrote this track about my own experience, I was trying to convince myself that I wasn’t going to get into anything serious because I was terrified of commitment after my ex had treated me terribly. However, I couldn’t ignore how strong my feelings were for this person. I wrote this track at the peak of my confusion, hence the back and forth in the lyrics. Then finally, as the end of the song expresses, I started to open my mind to the possibility of another relationship, because this new person was different. Now that I think about it, writing this song really helped me decide what to do (I went for it, and we’re still together now a year and a half later).”
