Rona Mac releases hazy new single ‘Pennies’ | New Music

Rona (she/her,) is a self-invented, genre-fusing, queer singer-songwriter whose music focuses on her voice and lyric partnership – a partnership which helps express herself fully. Her music pays homage to her West Wales roots. Imagery of lush, rolling hills and idyllic rural fields, are all images present in her music. However, above all this the main aim of her music is to inspire self-positivity, and tell her audience to be whoever they want to be. Speaking about this, she says: “If I can talk about things we’ve been told we shouldn’t, and help people connect to feelings they tucked away in their teens, then I’ll be happy when I’m old.

“Pennies” showcases Rona Mac’s signature sound in abundance. Vintage sounding drums provide the foundation for intricate, chorus drenched guitars to be laid on top of. A soothing wall of sound is created when heavenly backing vocals mix with the lead vocal line. Her vocals are emotionally penned, raw and infectious, with melodies that reverberate around the track. With the track discussing the topic of stress, Rona Mac hopes her audience can find solace in her music.

Speaking further about this, she says: “This song is about weighing up and juggling many things, caught in a frenzy of 5 jobs, being broke and a bit broken, and considering moving in with my girlfriend 1 month into the relationship to save on money, rather than waiting for the right time. I felt I was losing myself in a rising tide.”

Only releasing music since 2020, it’s clear to see how much Rona has improved her craft. With a fanbase growing, and some exciting projects in the pipeline, we can only imagine her going right to the top.
