LE VISITEUR – DISCO JUICE – YAM WHO? – SEPTEMBER 2022

After a rather crazy summer Midnight Riot are keeping the disco dial turned up to 11 with some seriously tasty releases and a straight in the diary gig.

One of this months track highlights is Conan The Selector and Sulene Flemings rendition of Patti LaBelle’s The Spirit’s In It. Keen ears might pick up that the original was also sampled for Mighty Mouse’s all conquering track The Spirit a couple of years back. Here Conan And Sulene give it a seriously funky boogie house rework replete with a huge vocal, deft work on the piano, sax solos and a non-stop a*s shaker of a b-line. Party vibes all the way. You can check it below in both original and Yam Who? remix form.

Also worth checking this month from Midnight Riot are Da Lukas and Blade from Jestofunk’s DJ Control, C Da Afro’s funk monster Shadow Dancer and the ace Balearic Headspace, Vol. 6 which we covered HERE.

On the gig front all eyes are soon to be on ADE and Midnight Riot is out in full force with UK house don Michael Gray joining a packed bill including Yam Who? Platinum City, Suki Soul, Disco Sparks, Even Funkier and Faz. All the details are below.

Various – Too Slow To Disco 4
Label : Too Slow To Disco

Since launching eight years ago, Too Slow To Disco has now become the go-to compilation series for all those interested in AOR disco, glossy West Coast blue-eyed soul, yacht rock and slow-motion disco. As always, DJ Supermarkt’s genius is to uncover the musical through-line that joins these missing-in-action names and the tunes that could have been their big moment. The result is a kind of joyous alternative history of the era, where a very different pantheon of pop gods became the names we love. Too Slow to Disco 4 is also a love letter to the genre-smashing bravery of that era, Yacht Pop rubbing shoulders with Christian Gospel, groovy Folk, Country-Soul and Blue-Eyed Soul. Essential!
