Getting to Know: Bare Jams | Interviews

Bare Jams are a six piece soul-pop-jazz band that could be your new favourite discovery. Throughout their cascade of fun-filled and highly energetic live shows, they more than replicate this on recording, with their new single ‘Rockets’ feeling like the perfect soundtrack for your day. The six-strong outfit channel their energy into bringing positive reinforcement into what has been a turbulent world of late. We sat down with Bare Jams to find out more about them and their plans for 2023.

Hey Bare Jams! How are you doing?

We are doing great over at Bare Jams HQ, we’ve just come off the back of our UK tour selling out some of our bucket list venues and we’ve just dropped a new music video for our new single Rockets. We do have a few post tour blues though.

Tell us all about your new soul-pop jam of a single ‘Rockets’!

– The track has many layers of meaning and like most of our songs can be interpreted by the listener in a way that suits and brings comfort & meaning to them. The project floats the idea that we can create our own safe place that we nurture and maintain in order to get to our desired destinations and outcomes while spreading love at the same time. Rockets is a homage to positive perception and optimism.

Who are your main influences as a band? We know there’s a lot of you!

– There are many influences that we have as a band and not all those influences directly relate to music sometimes, it could relate to look, show craft, professionalism, design, merch the list is endless. However the artist which has a consensus across the board is Fat Freddy’s Drop, there are only happy faces when they get a spin. Some other close contenders would be Easy Life, Sticky Fingers, Cat Empire & Ocean Alley.

What do you love most about being in Bare Jams?

Playing live to people that love your music, especially when they sing the lyrics back to you.

How do your songs usually come together, what’s the usual writing and recording process?

– We made the decision to bring our writing and recording process entirely in-house, with our trumpet player Seb Skelly, taking the lead on production. This means we have full control over everything we do. When it comes to penning a new tune we will normally meet up with individuals bringing nuggets of ideas and through trial and error work out what these ideas need to become full tunes. Sometimes something that has been shelved for a while might be the missing piece of the puzzle.

And lastly, What’s 2023 looking like for you?

-We have a lot planned for 2023 and want to consistently keep releasing new music for our fans. We’re currently sitting on 2 new tracks, which have had their live debut and have a 2 week studio session booked in for March, so you can expect a lot more fresh music. We’re also in the finalising stages of announcing new tour dates for our UK/EU Spring tour.

Not sure if I’m allowed to say but see you at Boomtown 2023 😉
